What a difference a cut can make

Blogged by Sarah on August 10th, 2011 in Acting, Ramblings

Well now that that last post is out of the way I can get on with living a blog lifestyle again, and first up was to change my avatar to suit the new look.

I’d been toying for some time with the idea of going for a cropped haircut but it had been a back-and-forth decision making process for about a year and a half. So on Wednesday 2nd March this year, as I sat in a hairdressers chair for “just a trim” something must have clicked as I declared “feck it, cut it all off”.

It took me literally ages to come to terms with the new “do”. I just didn’t feel like the same person and most days hated the new look. Amazing what a difference it can make to your whole perception of yourself. I was however, quite looking forward to seeing how it would effect the casting process for me. I thought it might find me relocated to a different box so to speak. I hoped it would move towards more interesting, challenging roles as perhaps it gave me a slightly edgier look, but to be honest it hasn’t made that much difference. I’ve been auditioning for similar roles and haven’t landed anything I couldn’t have gotten before… possibly a shame, but not the end of the world.

Anyway my mind finally settled and I’m now used to it, even going so far as to say “I like it”, which is a pretty big deal. Although I decided a week or two ago to start the growing process I’m still between minds, so I guess we’ll just have to watch this space.

So the avatar has just been updated and will hopefully appear alongside this post when I click the magic “publish” button.

Here’s hoping

Get the ball rolling

Blogged by Sarah on August 10th, 2011 in Ramblings

OK, I just have to bite the bullet and break the ice on 2011 with a first post for the year.  I am ashamed I’ve not kept on top of this, it got to the stage where I thought I’d left it too long to post, but then (unsurprisingly) it became even longer ;)

I’m shocked to see it’s almost been a year since my last post. Where does the time go?

2011 has been good to me so far, however I have high expectations for the rest of the year and envision it will finish off on an even higher note.

That’s it… job done for now, post written, the ice-broken, and now lets move on with posts a plenty from here on in.

2010 – It’s snow joke!

Blogged by Sarah on January 7th, 2010 in Covies, Ramblings

First off I want to wish everyone a happy and successful 2010! (and apologise for that terrible blog title)

This is going to be a great year, I can feel it! Even if it has been a bit of a strange start with the weather giving us a run for our money. Ireland has a tendency to shut down during snowfall and this week has been no exception. The buses stopped running, the airport was closed, the roads and foot paths were turned into ice rinks, and most businesses closed early so the mayhem I experienced yesterday as I tried to make my way home is unlike anything I’ve seen in quite a while. I’ve had two auditions postponed this week as well, but they are planned to be rescheduled and go ahead next week so it’s not a big deal. It’s probably not such a bad thing anyway, considering I took a spectacular fall on the ice outside my house the other day and have limited mobility in my right side.  The main problem looming over at the moment is I’ve a trip to Westport this coming Sunday for the official launch party of Covies…. and I want to go!! Fingers crossed a bit of sun and clear skies will win out for the next few days and I’ll get there OK on the weekend.

Other then the weather, 2010 is looking and feeling good already. I’ve been in discussions for photo-shoots, a possible feature and a film project of my own and they’re just the ones I’m allowed to mention. So please keep an eye here on my blog or on my Twitter feed to stay in touch and know what I’m up to.

Here’s to a fantastic 2010 for all of us!!

Don’t forget to catch the first episode of Covies on Monday 11th at 9pm on the TV Westport website.

My First Post!

Blogged by Sarah on November 21st, 2009 in Ramblings

Well, here we go, my brand spanking new and shiny website is up and running and first off I owe a massive thank you to Alex for getting it to this point and surprising me with it!

I’m delighted to have loads of new features and the fact I’m now using Word Press means I have complete control and will be able to update as often as I like.  One of the major obstacles I’ve found of being an actor is having to master the art of self promotion, not something which comes naturally to most of us I’m sure, but I seem to be getting better and my head is often buzzing with ideas and hopefully this website will be a useful tool for me to air some of those light bulb moments.

So welcome along… please check back regularly, share your thoughts and comments, enjoy my site and spread the word!
